This summer, 22 young adults from the South Kerry region successfully completed the Ember Wilderness-Based Personal Development Programme, delivered by Venture Out and funded by South Kerry Development Partnership (SKDP).
The three-day expedition took participants along the Western Way in County Galway, camping in wild sites and taking responsibility for tasks such as meal prep, camp setup, and carrying all essentials in backpacks.
Beyond the adventure, the programme included personal development workshops on topics like mental health, wellbeing, problem-solving, planning, and self-care. Participants engaged in group discussions and hands-on activities, supporting each other throughout the journey.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it one of the most memorable experiences they’ve had in Ireland. Venture Out guides reported a safe, successful expedition with high engagement and a strong group dynamic.
The Ember Programme provides a unique opportunity for young people to grow confidence, resilience, and life skills in a supportive outdoor setting.
